At Miss Dolly Studios, technology is used as part of a considered creative process. Generative artificial intelligence is one of the tools used in developing our artwork, alongside human creative direction, selection, editing, refinement and production.
We believe in being open about how our books are made, while taking full responsibility for everything we publish.
How we use AI
Generative AI tools may be used during the development of illustrations and other creative material for Miss Dolly Studios.
The output of these tools is not treated as a finished product simply because it has been generated. Ideas and images are directed, reviewed and selected as part of the creative process, and artwork may be revised, edited, cleaned, adapted or rejected before it becomes part of a published book.
Our monochrome colouring books have their own particular visual and practical requirements. Illustrations are developed and prepared to work as bold black-and-white colouring designs, with suitable composition, clear colourable areas and an appropriate level of detail for the finished page.
The final selection, presentation and preparation of every published design is overseen by Miss Dolly Studios.
AI in our wider publishing work
AI tools may also be used to assist with parts of the publishing and business process, including brainstorming, research, editing, marketing, product descriptions, website development and technical tasks.
AI assistance does not replace our own review or judgement. Material intended for publication or communication is reviewed and, where appropriate, edited before it is used.
Quality and responsibility
Miss Dolly Studios takes responsibility for the books, artwork, descriptions and other material we publish.
AI-generated or AI-assisted material is assessed as part of our normal creative and production process. We decide what is suitable for publication and what is not.
Our books are also prepared and checked for their intended physical format, including print quality and usability as colouring books.
Disclosure
We aim to be transparent about meaningful use of generative AI in our creative work.
Where a retailer, distributor, publishing platform or other service requires disclosure of AI-generated or AI-assisted material, we provide the information required by that platform.
Our use of AI may evolve as technology, publishing practices and legal or platform requirements change.
Copyright and creative rights
Copyright and the legal treatment of AI-generated and AI-assisted material continue to develop.
Miss Dolly Studios claims rights in the human-created and human-directed elements of its published work, including creative direction, selection, editing, adaptation, arrangement, design, written material and the compilation and presentation of finished publications, where applicable.
Nothing in this policy grants permission for Miss Dolly Studios publications, artwork, branding or other protected material to be copied or reused beyond what is permitted by law or expressly authorised by us.
Keeping this policy up to date
Artificial intelligence and the rules surrounding its use are developing quickly.
We will review this policy periodically and may update it when our working practices change or when significant legal, technological or publishing-platform developments make an update appropriate.
The latest version will always be published on this page.
